What is the cheapest to run/greenest car I can buy?

A mid-80s Honda Civic. Greater than 35MPG, less than $3000, super cheap to keep running. If you want something new, go with the Jetta TDI or one of the Hybrid Civic/Camery/Prius.

Older cars are probably better. You can't buy extremely cheap hybrids even if used.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish with a green car? What is your driving pattern? Do you do more in town or out of town driving?
